Finding patterns in user preferences in real-world conversations

10/26/2025

Gutenberg’s product allows us to find rich, novel insights in data. We tested it on lmsys/chatbot_arena_conversations, a dataset of real-world conversations where a user asks 2 LLMs a question and votes on which they prefer. Turns out, we can find new patterns in user preferences, too.

For example, feature 2233 is significantly correlated (r=0.36) with being in the winning response:

Feature 2233 visualization

This feature represents politely asking “let me know how I can help”. In many cases A and B appear about equal, except one tacks this on at the end. Across the 688 samples it appears in, it wins 464 of them.

So we’ve learned either:

  1. There’s a causal relationship, ie users prefer responses with a friendly “how else can I help” vibe.
  2. Or, there’s a confounder, eg the model asks “how else can I help” if it’s done the task sufficiently well

What matters is that you can use this finding immediately. You can try directly asking “let me know how I can help more”, or look for other patterns that may trigger the use of this phrase. We’ve already applied this to customer datasets to improve their engagement metrics.

Gutenberg works with any dataset, but a natural fit tends to be user-assistant interactions. Depending on your target variable, you can ask questions like: what conversations do users prefer, what causes churn, what converts them to paying subscribers. Notably, this means we don’t need access to model weights to apply interp.

You can check out the raw results from the dataset here. You can request a demo here. Below are some highlighted findings.

Can you explain the race condition to a kid?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
Sure! Imagine two friends, Lily and Tom, are both trying to grab the last cookie from a plate at the same time. They both reach out to grab it, but because they're both trying to get it at the same time, they end up bumping into each other and the cookie falls to the ground. This is kind of like a race condition in computer programming.
In computer programming, a race condition happens when two or more parts of a program try to access the same resource (like a piece of data or a file) at the same time. Just like Lily and Tom both trying to grab the last cookie, the program gets confused about which part should get access to the resource first. This can cause errors or unexpected behavior in the program.<end_of_turn>

Can you explain the race condition to a kid?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
Sure, here is a simple explanation of a race condition:
Imagine two kids, Jack and Jill, who want to use the swing in the playground. There is only one swing, so they have to take turns using it. But Jack and Jill both run towards the swing at the same time, without coordinating with each other. There are two possible outcomes:
1. Jack reaches the swing first, sits on it and starts swinging. Jill has to wait for her turn. This is not a race condition.
2. Both Jack and Jill reach the swing at nearly the same time. Not knowing that the other kid is also trying to use the swing, they both sit on it at the same time. This leads to unexpected behavior (two kids on one swing) and potential issues (they crash into each other, or the swing breaks). This is a race condition - two events (Jack and Jill reaching the swing) racing to complete first with undesirable results.
To fix the race condition, Jack and Jill need to coordinate - for example, by arriving at the swing at different times, or by checking if the other kid is already using the swing before sitting on it themselves.
In computing, a race condition occurs when two or more programs or threads access a shared resource (like a file, variable or data structure) at the same time, and the outcome depends on which program or thread accesses the resource first. This can lead to unexpected behaviors and bugs in the software. So programmers need to coordinate access to shared resources to avoid race conditions, just like Jack and Jill needed to coordinate to avoid issues with the swing.
Does this help explain the concept? Let me know if you need any clarification!<end_of_turn>

why is the sky blue<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
The sky is blue because of a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering, which is when light reflects off of particles in the atmosphere, such as water droplets, dust, and molecules of gases. These particles scatter the light in all directions, making the sky appear blue.
The colors of the sky are also influenced by atmospheric conditions, such as the presence of pollution and the amount of dust and other particles in the air. When the sun sets or goes down, the sky can appear purple or pink due to the scattering of light by the air, giving the sky a slightly different color.
Overall, the colors of the sky are influenced by a combination of atmospheric conditions and the presence of various particles in the air.<end_of_turn>

why is the sky blue<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
The sky appears blue to us due to the way the atmosphere scatters light from the sun. As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, the relatively shorter wavelength of blue light means that it gets scattered more by the tiny molecules in the air. This is known as Rayleigh scattering and it gives the sky an azure blue appearance during the day.
There are a couple of reasons why the blue wavelength is scattered more:
1. The shorter wavelength of blue light means that it interacts more readily with the small molecules and particles in the atmosphere. The blue photons get scattered away in all directions.
2. The amount of scattering is inversely proportional to the fourth power of wavelength. So blue light with a wavelength of around 470 nm is scattered much more strongly than the longer red wavelengths.
3. The sun's light contains a mix of all colors of the visible spectrum, but it peaks in the yellow-green region. The blue component is a larger portion of the total light, so it dominates the scattered light that reaches our eyes.
4. The way our eyes perceive color also makes the blue appear more prominent. Our vision is most sensitive to yellow-green and blue colors.
So the combined effect of all these factors is that we see the sky as a bright azure blue during the daytime. At sunrise and sunset, the sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere to reach us, and other wavelengths of light get scattered away, which gives us the bright orange and red hues.
Does this help explain why we see the sky as blue? Let me know if you have any other questions!<end_of_turn>

Hi, what can you tell me about carbon offset?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
Carbon offset is a way to compensate for emissions of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases. It usually involves investing in projects that reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere, such as planting trees or investing in clean energy sources. The goal of carbon offset is to reduce the overall emissions of greenhouse gases and help mitigate climate change.<end_of_turn>

Hi, what can you tell me about carbon offset?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
Carbon offsets are a way to neutralize the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced by human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels, by removing an equal amount of CO2 from the atmosphere through various means, such as the planting of trees or the purchase of renewable energy credits. The idea is that by balancing the CO2 emissions we produce with the CO2 that we remove, we can effectively offset our carbon footprint and contribute to the mitigation of climate change.
One way to think about carbon offsets is as a kind of "carbon credit," which can be used to purchase or trade for goods and services that have a lower carbon footprint than the ones we typically use. For example, a company might purchase carbon credits to offset the emissions produced by its energy consumption, and then use those credits to purchase renewable energy for its operations instead of fossil fuels.
Carbon offsets can be purchased in a variety of ways, including through government-run programs, such as the EU's Emission Trading System, or through private companies that specialize in the development and sale of carbon credits.
It's important to note that the effectiveness of carbon offsets can be somewhat controversial, as some critics argue that they are not always transparent or rigorously monitored, and that they may not always provide a reliable or accurate means of offsetting our carbon footprint. As a result, it's important to carefully consider the credibility and reliability of any carbon offsets you are considering, and to choose those that are transparent and well-monitored.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.<end_of_turn>

Many responses between A and B seem about equal. Maybe tacking on a polite, helpful note at the end helps tip the vote.

Using a chain of thought and step-by-step reasoning, answer the question: "When will humans colonize Mars?"<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
The question of when humans will colonize Mars is a complex one that involves many factors, including technological advancements, political will, and financial resources. Here is a step-by-step reasoning that could be used to answer this question:
1. Determine the motivations for colonizing Mars: There are several reasons why humans may want to colonize Mars, including scientific exploration, the search for life, and the establishment of a backup plan for humanity in case of a catastrophic event on Earth.
2. Evaluate current technological capabilities: Currently, there are a number of technological challenges that must be overcome before humans can colonize Mars, such as developing the propulsion systems and life support systems required for a long-distance space mission.
3. Assess the progress of ongoing Mars missions: NASA and other space agencies are currently working on a number of Mars missions, including the Perseverance Rover and the Mars 2020 Rover. These missions will help to gather valuable data about the Martian environment, including its potential for supporting human life.
4. Consider the availability of financial resources: Estimates for the cost of a Mars colonization mission vary widely, but it is likely to be a substantial investment. Governments and private companies will need to allocate substantial resources to fund such a mission.
5. Identify potential roadblocks and challenges: There are a number of potential roadblocks and challenges that could delay or prevent a Mars colonization mission, including political instability, natural disasters, and technical difficulties.
6. Predict the likelihood of a Mars colonization mission occurring within a certain timeframe: Based on the above factors, it is difficult to predict with certainty whether humans will colonize Mars within a specific timeframe. However, it is likely that it will happen eventually, as the desire to explore and colonize new frontiers is a fundamental part of human nature.
Overall, while there are many factors that will influence the timing of a Mars colonization mission, it is likely that humans will eventually establish a permanent settlement on the red planet. However, it is difficult to predict exactly when this will occur, as there are many uncertainties and potential roadblocks that could delay or prevent the mission from happening.<end_of_turn>

Using a chain of thought and step-by-step reasoning, answer the question: "When will humans colonize Mars?"<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
The first step in human colonization of Mars is to create a working vehicle to carry humans to the Red Planet and sustain them there. This could be in the form of a reusable launch vehicle and spaceship, or a single-use lander meant only for transport of humans. Once the necessary technology is in place to enable human missions to Mars, the next step would be to identify a launch window where the planet is in the proper position relative to the Sun. If launched too early or too late, Mars will be unable to sustain human life. Once a launch window has been identified, the planning for human missions to Mars can begin.<end_of_turn>

Full-time employees are eligible for 20 days of vacation in the year of your 10th anniversary with IBM. For example, if your first date of full-time IBM employment was September 1, 1999, you would be eligible for 20 days of vacation beginning in 2009. You may take your full amount of vacation at any time during this year, but your full amount (that is, 20 days), is not earned until the end of the year.

It is not possible to say whether the claim is fully faithful to the document without additional context. The document is a summary of the vacation plan offered by IBM to regular full-time employees and employees with alternative work schedules. The claim, on the other hand, states that based on 12 years of service, the employee is entitled to a maximum of 15 days of vacation per year.
In order to determine whether the claim is fully faithful to the document, we would need to know the specific circumstances of the employee and whether they are eligible for the vacation plan outlined in the document. Without more information, it is not possible to make a definitive determination.<end_of_turn>

<start_of_turn>model
There are many different approaches you could take to classifying HR queries. Here are a few possible classes that might be useful:
1. Data type: One way to classify queries is by the type of data the user is asking for. For example, you might have queries related to employee information (such as names, addresses, or job titles), compensation and benefits data, or performance metrics.
2. Query purpose: Another way to classify queries is by the purpose of the query. For example, you might have queries related to recruitment and hiring, queries related to employee development and training, or queries related to employee engagement and retention.
3. Query complexity: You could also classify queries based on their complexity. For example, you might have simple queries that can be answered quickly with a few clicks, more complex queries that require more advanced analysis or data manipulation, or highly complex queries that require specialized expertise or external data sources.
4. Query source: You might also consider classifying queries based on the source of the data. For example, you might have queries related to internal HR data, queries related to external data sources (such as labor market data or industry benchmarks), or queries related to third-party data providers.
5. Query format: Finally, you might consider classifying queries based on the format in which they are submitted. For example, you might have queries submitted through a web interface, queries submitted through a mobile app, or queries submitted through voice or chat interfaces.<end_of_turn>

I am developing a dungeon crawler game and have a problem with fight mechanic. Some creatures who cast AoE spells seem to overpowerded. Is it common to reduce the number of enemies affected by AoE attacks?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
It's not uncommon for game developers to adjust the balance of their game mechanics, including AoE attacks, in order to create a more challenging and enjoyable gameplay experience for players.
Reducing the number of enemies affected by AoE attacks could be one way to balance the game. Another approach could be to adjust the power or cooldown time of the AoE spells.
It's also important to consider the player's abilities and tactics in combat. Are there ways for players to avoid or mitigate the effects of the AoE spells, such as using cover, dodging, or using defensive spells or items?
Ultimately, the goal should be to create a challenging and engaging gameplay experience that requires strategy and skill from players, while avoiding frustration or feeling overpowered by certain enemies or spells.<end_of_turn>

I am developing a dungeon crawler game and have a problem with fight mechanic. Some creatures who cast AoE spells seem to overpowerded. Is it common to reduce the number of enemies affected by AoE attacks?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
It is not common to reduce the number of enemies affected by AoE attacks in Dungeon Crawling games. AoE attacks are meant to deal a significant amount of damage to a large number of enemies, not to overwhelm them. AoE attacks should be used to deal damage to a selected target, not to kill off a large number of enemies.
To reduce the number of enemies affected by AoE attacks, you could increase the amount of AoE spells being cast on a given creature. This would allow for more targeted and powerful AoE spells to be cast, which would reduce the overall number of enemies affected. Additionally, it may be helpful to have some forms of crowd control or AoE defense to mitigate the effects of AoE attacks.<end_of_turn>

Models represent specific concepts (eg vacations, damage in video games) as features. Features activate across languages, and precisely for the concept. Eg it does not fire for healthcare enrollment or mana cost of spells, despite being in a similar context.

write a short funny story about LouDog, the dog that smokes cigarettes<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
Here is a short funny story about LouDog, the smoking dog:
It was just another lazy afternoon for LouDog. He was sprawled out on the front porch of his owner's house, soaking in the sun. LouDog reached for the pack of cigarettes he kept stashed in the porch floorboards and pulled one out with his teeth. He lit it up with the lighter he had learned to operate and took a long, satisfying drag.
As LouDog exhaled a cloud of smoke, his owner's cat, Fluffy, sauntered by. "Those things will kill you, you know," Fluffy meowed.
LouDog shrugged. "We all gotta go someday. At least I'll go out enjoying life's simple pleasures." He offered Fluffy a cigarette. "Come on, live a little!"
Fluffy hissed and batted the cigarette out of LouDog's mouth. "Have you no decency? Those are for humans, not animals!"
LouDog sighed. Fluffy just didn't understand. He didn't know what he was missing. LouDog lit up another cigarette and scratched behind his ear. His owner would be home from work soon, and he'd have to hide his secret stash again. But for now, LouDog was content to watch the clouds of smoke drift up to the sky and contemplate the meaning of life, one cigarette at a time.
The end. I imagined LouDog as a very chill, philosophical dog who sees smoking as one of life's great pleasures that helps him relax and ponder deep thoughts. The disapproving cat Fluffy tries to spoil his fun but LouDog marches to the beat of his own drum. Please let me know if you'd like me to modify or expand the story in any way. I had fun coming up with the concept!<end_of_turn>

Once upon a time in a quirky little town called Puffsville, there lived a dog like no other. LouDog was his name, and he had a peculiar habit that left everyone in town talking - he smoked cigarettes.
LouDog, a scruffy golden retriever with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, had discovered his unusual hobby quite by accident. One day, while scavenging for food behind the local tavern, he stumbled upon a half-smoked cigarette. Curious, he sniffed it and accidentally inhaled some of the smoke. Surprisingly, LouDog found the experience quite enjoyable, and thus began his journey into the world of smoking.
As word spread about LouDog's peculiar habit, tourists began to flock to Puffsville, eager to catch a glimpse of the smoking dog. The townspeople, initially skeptical, soon realized that LouDog's newfound fame could be a financial boon for their sleepy little town. They decided to embrace it, and before long, Puffsville was known far and wide as the home of the smoking dog.
One sunny afternoon, the mayor of Puffsville held a town meeting to discuss how they could capitalize on LouDog's fame. Ideas flew left and right, from LouDog-themed merchandise to guided tours of the town. But it was little Timmy, the mayor's son, who came up with the best idea of all: a LouDog smoking contest!
The townspeople were thrilled with the idea and quickly got to work organizing the event. They put up posters, invited celebrities and even contacted the Guinness Book of World Records. The day of the contest finally arrived, and the excitement in the air was palpable.
Contestants from all over the world had come to Puffsville to compete against LouDog. The rules were simple: contestants had to smoke as many cigarettes as possible in one minute, with the winner being the one who smoked the most. The grand prize was a year's supply of cigarettes and a golden lighter engraved with LouDog's face.
As the contest began, the crowd watched in awe as LouDog and his human competitors puffed away. It was a close race, but in the end, it was LouDog who emerged victorious, having smoked an impressive 10 cigarettes in just one minute. The crowd roared with delight, and LouDog was crowned the smoking champion of Puffsville.
As the sun set on that memorable day, the townspeople couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all. A dog that smoked cigarettes had somehow managed to bring their town together and put Puffsville on the map.
And as for LouDog, well, he couldn't have been happier. With his golden lighter in paw and a year's supply of cigarettes, he knew that his days of scavenging behind the tavern were over. But, more importantly, he had proven once and for all that he truly was the top dog in Puffsville.<end_of_turn>

Title: Whiskers' Enchanted Adventure
Once upon a time in a quaint little village, life unfolded much like any other ordinary day. However, in a small cottage near the edge of town, something extraordinary was about to happen. A curious black cat named Whiskers meandered about the house, exploring every nook and cranny it could find.
Whiskers was no ordinary cat. From the moment the sun rose to the moment it set, Whiskers was always busy searching for hidden treasures and unraveling the many mysteries of life. With bright green eyes and a sleek black coat, Whiskers was the epitome of feline perfection. Its owner, an old widow named Mrs. Abernathy, doted on Whiskers with great affection, providing it with the finest meals and warmest blankets.
One day, as Whiskers prowled around the cottage, it stumbled upon a hidden room. It was almost as if the room had been waiting for someone like Whiskers to discover it. The air was thick with magic and mystery, and the walls were lined with books on ancient spells and potions. A tattered, dusty book lay open on a wooden table in the center of the room. Whiskers, unable to resist the allure, jumped onto the table and began to inspect the ancient writing.
As Whiskers' paw brushed against the page, a sudden gust of wind blew through the room, flipping the pages of the book. The words seemed to dance and swirl around Whiskers, and a bright light enveloped the cat. The room shook vigorously, and when the light faded, Whiskers was no longer a cat, but a majestic, mythical creature with wings.
Whiskers, now a winged cat, was in awe of this newfound magic. It could suddenly understand the words written in the book, and it learned that the enchantment was a temporary one, lasting only until the next full moon. Eager to explore the world with its newfound abilities, Whiskers soared into the sky, leaving the cottage behind.
As Whiskers traveled, it discovered a magical realm filled with enchanting creatures and breathtaking landscapes. Whiskers met other magical animals on its journey, including a talking fox named Fennec and a wise, ancient tortoise named Sage. Together, the trio embarked on a grand adventure, exploring hidden caves, making new friends, and overcoming challenges they never thought possible.
Throughout their journey, Whiskers, Fennec, and Sage encountered a series of obstacles that tested their courage and strength. They battled fearsome beasts, solved riddles, and found hidden treasures. Along the way, they learned the importance of friendship and teamwork, and their bond grew stronger with each passing day.
As the days went by, Whiskers began to feel a longing for home. The magical realm was mesmerizing, but it missed the warmth of its owner's lap and the coziness of the cottage. As the full moon approached, Whiskers knew it was time to return to its ordinary life as a cat.
Whiskers bid farewell to Fennec and Sage, promising to treasure the memories of their enchanted adventure forever. As the full moon rose, the magic faded, and Whiskers transformed back into an ordinary cat. With a heavy heart, it returned to the cottage, forever grateful for the extraordinary journey it had experienced.
Mrs. Abernathy, overjoyed to see Whiskers return, welcomed it back with open arms. Though she had no knowledge of Whiskers' magical adventure, she had missed her beloved cat dearly. Whiskers settled back into its old life, often gazing out the window and reminiscing about its enchanted journey. Even though Whiskers was once again an ordinary cat, it knew that the magic of friendship and adventure would live on in its heart forever.
And so, life continued in the quaint little village, as ordinary as ever. But for one cat named Whiskers, the world would always be filled with wonder and enchantment, for it knew that magic was never truly gone, but merely waiting to be discovered in the most unexpected of places.
The End.<end_of_turn>

I have $10,000 of starting capital and want to start a new business specializing in AI-centric development tools. What steps should I take to make as much money as possible in the shortest time possible?<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
First, I would evaluate whether my 10k is best deployed here in the United States, or should be deployed internationally. If the latter, I would determine which country is best to target based on where the demand for my services is greater, and then choose to specialize in selling to companies in that country.
Assuming I have determined the location of highest demand, I would start by identifying the languages I would need to learn in order to provide competent service. I would begin by learning Java because it is the most popular programming language worldwide, and also an open-source language which can be modified and extended to meet my customers' needs. Next, I would learn Python because it is an easy language to get started with and is very popular in data analysis. I would also learn some SQL, as using a database to store and manage customer data is a common need.
After completing my foreign language training, I would return to the United States to work at a company offering offshore outsourcing of programming work. I would start by doing small projects for customers to evaluate my work quality and customer service skills, and then I would begin selling my services on a freelance basis to other companies.
As I gain more experience, I would continue to focus on selling to companies in the countries where I have foreign language training. I would continue to build my programming skills by reading online tutorials and completing small projects for customers. I would also begin building my business on paper by creating a business plan and financial projections.
With my programming and business skills established, I would begin marketing my services by setting up a website and social media accounts. I would also begin selling my programming work on Upwork or Fiverr by providing small, individual tasks to be completed.
As I gain more experience, I would identify additional skills I could offer to my customers and add those to my set of skills. For example, I might learn C++ in order to build custom applications or libraries which are not easily built in Java or Python. I would also continue to invest in my foreign language training in order to offer more complex programming tasks in the languages I have learned.<end_of_turn>

Charles was standing on the dais, waiting for the ceremonial procession to begin. He was surrounded by the most important and influential people of the kingdom, all of them staring at him with reverence and admiration. He felt a bit overwhelmed by the moment, but he was determined to make the best of it. He started to make fun of the funny looking members of the audience, whispering comments to himself and smiling. He was sure that no one could hear him, but he couldn’t help it - he just found some people so ridiculous! Charles was beginning to enjoy himself. He was the King, and he could do whatever he wanted.<end_of_turn>

what are the conjugations in the word したわれて<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
The word したわれておる appears to be a combination of three different Japanese conjugations:
1. した (shita) - This is the past tense of the verb する (suru), which means "to do" in English.
2. われて (warete) - This is the passive form of われる (wareru), which means "to be divided" or "to be separated" in English.
3. おる (oru) - This is a humble form of the verb いる (iru), which means "to be" or "to exist" in English.
When combined, the meaning of したわれておる is not very clear as it seems to be a mix of different verb forms. However, if used in a specific context, it might make more sense.<end_of_turn>

In Stable Diffusion, you can prompt different people or groups in a scene by providing a text-based prompt (also known as a prompt file) with the desired content, such as a description, a photo, or any other relevant information.
Here's an example of how you can prompt different people in Stable Diffusion:
1. Create a new scene and give it a title, for example, "Prompt 1: a photo of a beach."
2. Give the scene a description that describes the scene, for example: "A stunning sunset over the ocean. A group of friends on a beach, laughing and chatting."
3. In the scene, create a list of people or objects that you want to prompt. For example: "People walking by the beach, looking lost in the distance."
4. Use the "Create" function to create a prompt for each person or object in the list. For example, you could use the following command to prompt a person walking by the beach:
```
"Person walking by the beach, looking lost in the distance."
```
5. Replace "Person" with the name of the person or object you want to prompt.
6. The prompt will be saved in the "input" folder of the scene.
7. To use the prompt, simply click on the prompt file in the scene and it will load the person or object you selected.
You can also use the "prompt" function to create a prompt for multiple people or objects in a single scene. For example, you could use the following command to prompt all people in a specific location:
```
"Group of people in the center of the stage, looking focused and excited."
```
This will prompt all people in the "group of people" at the center of the stage to share a photo.<end_of_turn>

write a short story about two lovers engaging in the bedroom<end_of_turn>
<start_of_turn>model
Once upon a time, in a quaint town nestled between rolling hills and a sparkling river, there lived two lovers named Amelia and Thomas. They were each other's solace in a world that often seemed too cruel and chaotic, and their love was deep and unyielding. The bond between them was so strong that the townspeople often marveled at how fate had brought them together.
One autumn evening, as the sun set and painted the sky with hues of pink and gold, Amelia and Thomas retreated to their cozy bedroom, filled with warmth and the promise of a night spent in each other's arms. The room was lit with candles, casting a soft, golden glow on the walls, creating a sanctuary where their love could blossom.
As they stood by the window, wrapped in each other's embrace, their fingers intertwined, and their gazes locked, they felt the weight of the world dissolve, replaced by the tender affection that enveloped them. With each breath, they inhaled the love they felt for one another, and with each heartbeat, they knew they had found their soulmate.
Slowly, they began to dance, moving to the gentle rhythm of their love. Their eyes never left each other as they swayed, their bodies pressed close, lost in a world of their own. The candles flickered, casting shadows that danced along with them, creating a harmony that only they could hear.
As the night grew deeper, their connection intensified, and they knew that they wanted to express their love in the most intimate of ways. They carefully undressed each other, each touch filled with love and respect, each gaze filled with admiration and desire.
As they lay down on the soft bed, the candlelight illuminating their bodies, they knew that their love transcended the physical realm. It was a bond that would withstand the test of time, and it was made all the more powerful by the trust and vulnerability they shared in that moment.
Their hearts beat in unison as they joined together, their bodies moving as one, guided by the passion and love that flowed between them. Each touch, each kiss, was a testament to the depth of their connection, a sacred bond that would never be broken.
In the stillness of the night, as the last candle flickered and went out, Amelia and Thomas lay entwined, their bodies spent but their love still burning bright. They knew that no matter what the world threw at them, their love would be their anchor, their strength, and their salvation.
And so, in their little bedroom, in a corner of the world that seemed made just for them, the two lovers found solace, comfort, and the purest expression of love that would endure for a lifetime.<end_of_turn>

Once upon a time, there were two men named Max and Ben. They had been friends for years, but one day, they realized that their friendship had turned into something more. They started to develop feelings for each other and decided to take a chance on a romantic relationship.
At first, things were a little awkward between them. They were both a bit nervous about taking the next step, but they quickly got over it. They enjoyed spending time together and finding new ways to make each other happy.
As their relationship grew stronger, they became inseparable. They went on adventures together, cooked meals for each other, and even started to plan a future together. They were truly in love.
One day, Ben surprised Max with a romantic picnic in the park. They sat on a blanket under a beautiful willow tree, and Ben told Max how much he loved him. Max was overwhelmed with emotion and told Ben that he loved him too. They shared a passionate kiss under the willow tree, and their love for each other grew even stronger.
From that day forward, Max and Ben's relationship only continued to flourish. They faced challenges and obstacles along the way, but they always found a way to overcome them together. They knew that they were meant to be together, and they never let anything come between them.
Years went by, and Max and Ben grew old together. They had children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. But no matter how much time passed, their love for each other never faded. They were still as in love as they were on the day they first met.
In the end, Max and Ben knew that they were lucky to have found each other. They were grateful for every moment they spent together, and they knew that their love would last forever.<end_of_turn>

Here is a short story about a romantic relationship between two men:
The morning sun filtered through the blinds as Tom slowly opened his eyes. He turned over to see Mark still sleeping peacefully, his chest rising and falling with each breath. Tom smiled, thinking how lucky he was to wake up next to this man every day.
They had met two years ago at a coffee shop. Tom was there writing in his journal when Mark walked in. Their eyes met across the room and Mark came over to introduce himself. They ended up talking for hours, connecting over shared interests and life experiences. At the end of the conversation, Mark asked Tom out to dinner. Although Tom had dated other men before, there was something different about Mark that gave him butterflies.
The relationship progressed steadily and after a few months, they decided to move in together. Living together only strengthened their bond and affection for one another. They supported each other through ups and downs, career changes, family issues, and health scares. Their love deepened in a way Tom had never known before.
Lying there now watching Mark sleep, Tom felt overwhelmed with gratitude for this man who had become his best friend, his shoulder to lean on, the one person he knew he could count on. He leaned over and kissed Mark gently on the cheek. Mark's eyes fluttered open and he smiled at Tom, pulling him into an embrace. No words were needed in that moment. Their love for each other was felt, a living, breathing thing that connected them heart and soul. Tom knew as long as they were together, he would always have a safe harbor to call home.<end_of_turn>

The features here (flowery/explicit language) occur in both responses in different amounts. We observe that the response with more of the feature tends to win. We have a more mathematically precise lens of analyzing 'how much flowery language' a response has, compared to eyeballing or asking an LLM judge.
